Creative Crafts

So a lot of people have asked me about a few craft ideas. I love coming up with new things to make. I tend to make a lot of crafts around birthdays or specific days like Easter, Christmas or Valentine’s Day.

Throughout this lockdown, there have been two big birthdays in my household. My dad turned 50 and my brother turns 21 soon. It’s a lot harder to plan special things when we can’t get out of the house but I’m sure I will find something. I thought I would share with you a few ideas that I made for previous occasions.

Maybe you could give a few of these ideas a go while at home or just save them for a special event.

1:

This is a cake made entirely out of alcohol (with the exception of the paracetamol and a few choccy bars). I love this idea because, well firstly I can’t cook and secondly it looks so effective. It’s super simple to make. All you need are cans of cider or beer, a bottle of Prosecco and some cake boards. I used blue ribbon to keep the cans in place and the decoration is up to you; you can keep it simple or smother it completely. Overall, this craft should cost around £25-£30 to make depending on how creative you want to get. This is one I did for a 21st.

This wax melt bouquet is something I have mentioned in a previous post but I just love it so much! It’s perfect for pretty much any occasion and easy and cheap to make. I went to hobby craft and bought all the flowers, decorations and tissue paper which was easy enough. I chose to display the bouquet in a jug but if you prefer a vase that would work too. The one thing I had trouble getting hold of was these particular wax melts in the picture below. I wanted these because they had the familiar shape of a flower. For anyone looking I would recommend checking card shops! Here is a picture of the wax melt bouquet I made for Easter but with different colour flowers and a few more candles it would make the perfect birthday gift. All together this craft should cost around £20-£25.

This chocolate birthday letter is probably one of the simplest most effective ideas. It can be as personal, funny or long as you want it to be. I did this for a 50th birthday and it was so fun to make. I started by writing a short passage trying to fit in as many chocolate bars as I could. Sounds a lot easier than you might think! Once that was done I picked up some colour card and the chocolate bars I needed and started to put it all together. One thing I would certainly recommend is to write out your passage in pencil first and measuring the spaces where the chocolate bars are going to go. I learned thing from my first ever time doing this craft and I ended up having to buy new card and start again. Oh one more thing… always buy spare card!

My absolute favourite craft yet… the Polaroid picture frame. I did this for a 21st and got our family and friends to hold letters so the frame would spell out happy 21st birthday! To do this I used my Fuji film Polaroid camera but if you don’t have one you can use print outs from your phone and it would be just as effective. This craft is more time consuming than costly as I only had to buy the prints for my camera, some coloured tissue paper and a frame which came to about £12. I would leave yourself plenty of time to get this ready if it is something your thinking of doing as it took me about 3 weeks to get round all of our family and friends and take the pictures. I love how special and sentimental this craft is; something so easy to make can hold such value. Here is the one I created below.

This craft is a bit on the festive side. I know it’s only April but still has to share with you. These are personalised Chocolate trees. I thought of this idea last Christmas when my mum was buying selection boxes. Everyone gives chocolate at Christmas but I thought there must be a way to make it cool and special. I give you the chocolate tree. These are great fun to make but do take quite a while and are a bit more expensive than the other crafts we’ve talked about. I took a trip down to hobby craft, again, and bought styrofoam cones, paint, a metal tin pot, a few different letters and some wooden rods… I also bought A LOT of glitter.

I put the trees together in stages. I first attached the cone and rods together and balanced them in pots to make a tree shape. Once they were painted I left them to dry for a few days. In this time I personalised the letters for the top of the tree. In this case I used the letter A and O which I painted red and covered in glitter. Using some wire I attached the letters to the top of the tree.

The final stage was to cover them with chocolates. I chose heroes (a classic fave) but any chocolates work and I began taping them on slightly overlapping each-other to make it more effective. I decided to give mine as gifts so I wrapped them up in cellophane and added a bow. Here’s a picture of them below. All together I would say that this craft cost me about £30-£35 to make. It may be that bit more expensive but it is so worth it as they make the perfect presents.

Thanks for reading! I hope you get the chance to give these creative crafts a go. Please be sure to leave a comment letting me know what you think of my craft ideas and feel free to let me know any of your own.

Happy Thursday!
