My favourite low-cal snacks

My favourite low-cal snacks

Throughout this whole lockdown I must have been on about ten different diets which have all worked in there own little way. The only problem is, they became so boring.

I would give up on every cheat day and crumble at the taste of anything sweet. I eventually figured out that it was because it was not letting myself having anything nice to eat. This is when I decided to do a health eating plan instead and it is the best alternative to a diet. It’s a lifestyle change rather than a short-term fix.

One of my main downfalls is snacking. So I searched for some low calorie snacks that work wonders in them times of need and I’m going to share them with you.

My first go-to snack is the caramel Snack-a-Jacks. If your craving something sweet then these a perfect. You can get the large rice cakes which are 50 cal each or buy them in mini bags which are 140 cal per bag. I prefer the bags as they are that little bit more satisfying. They come in so many flavours if your not a fan of caramel and are all very low fat, (they are also a great, healthy substitute for toffee popcorn).

Snack number two is fruit. Personally, I love pretty much all fruit. At the minute I can’t stop buying watermelon… It is said that if you eat too fast your likely not to feel full straight away which leads to more and more snacking. I find that a perfect solution to this is to freeze your fruit. This might not work with all types but I always do it with grapes. It makes them so much more refreshing and takes you a while to eat them making you feel much more fulfilled from your little snack. I tend to put them in the freezer during breakfast and get them out late afternoon.

The third snack I always go to when I’m hungry is the fibre one bars. Each bar is 90 calories and they taste like little cakes. Again, this is perfect if your wanting something sweet and is a great replacement for a fatty cake or cookie. My personal favourite are the cinnamon bars but they do a whole range of different flavours such as: chocolate brownie, lemon drizzle, birthday cake, carrot cake and more!

Snack number four is a fruity ice lolly. I always save this snack for after my tea as it’s is tasty but light. At the minute, I am loving the fruit pastel ones which are 62 calories each. They are packed with flavour and are so much better than a heavy chocolate bar.

Finally snack number five is jelly. I use to always forget about jelly but it literally is the best thing. It’s is so low fat and tasty. 100 grams of jelly is set at 62 cal but this can vary depending on how much you eat. I tend to eat a little pot with some fruit and it’s like a mini meal in the middle of the day. I tend to make my own jelly and keep it in the fridge however you can buy individual pots in all kinds a flavours.

Just because your dieting or eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to starve yourself. There is no reason to cut out snacking when there are so many healthy solutions to it. It’s all about choosing what’s right.

I hope this helps if your looking for some healthy snack solutions. Let me know any of your own healthy snacks in the comments below and if you would like to know more! I will post a part two if this was helpful.
